HIREMEHIREMEHIREME

I started my internship with barstalk.com this week. That's a link to a splash page. The full site launches on the 1st, I do believe. A cool concept. It's been fun running around to bars and restaurants and then getting to write about it.

On the music front, my pal Gryphon, of Phone Tag and a thousand other things, and I are working on a mix tape. I would tease you with a track list, but you have to wait until next week. Ok ok, I'll just say it features Phoenix, MVSCLZ, Vanity 6, Nightshade, Iron Maiden, Beyonce, Yuksek, more dirty rap than you can shake a PARENTAL ADVISORY label at, and oh so much more. It's good, trust me.

Also! Phone Tag is playing at Kenny's Castaways as part of CMJ this Friday. Needless to say, you should attend. FB event page behind the link.

Carry on, internet soldiers.

TODAY IS TODAY

And what could possibly go wrong on a day like today? No, wait. No, still nothin. Hm, thinkin. Nope, a total blank. Anyway, here you go.

A great chance for both live music and dance floor action. Features Video installations curated by Domy Books and viewings of various other arts n such. + Neilyo + Annie Ray + ok, really you should go.

That is, unless you're going to Emo's to see Chairlift perform with their super special added member, composer John Maus. That seems like an interesting combo. Partake in the video evidence provided to see what I mean. Not exactly iPod commercial material. Cool though. And yes, my phaser is permanently set to dork.

And from all accounts, this show is pretty darn great. + Prince Klassen. RSVP is closed already, but I'm sure you can pay to get in.

EAST SIDE MYSTICS

The word of the day is OPTIONS. The number of events is MANY. The adjective I'd use to describe all the possibilities for fun today is WONDERFUL.

MANY WONDERFUL OPTIONS
Note this starts at 4. Free kegs + grillables + I am not sure what strings they had to pull/trans-dimensional portals they had to open, but there will be centaur rides. I think it's easy to conclude that the fine folks at Misprint are some sort of space witches. Amazing!

And at 7! Right down the street! At Cheer Up Charlie's! Nanobang presents a Micro-Nano(bangbang) party with DJ sounds by DJ MVSCLZ, DJ Dan Gentile, DJ Rusty Lazer; live sounds by Computer Jesus Refrigerator; free frEE FREE Pineapple Jalapeno Margaritas & Tequila Lime Avocado Vegan Ice Cream; taro card readings; the usual creative loveliness you expect from a Nanobang event.

SPECIAL MESSAGE

BACK TO POST (IT'LL BE LATE NOW)
Heh, uh yeah, this is tonight. Not yesterday. I never make mistakes. Ever.

Quite the army of assorted local favorites tonight at Mohawk.

Tittsworth. Do you really have to say more?

MORE
There's a free show at Sonny's Vintage (2928 Guadalupe St # 104) from 4-7 that features Shells and Some Others. Tripp T-shirts (24th and Nueces) is hosting a back to school edition of Prints for Non-Profit, with Prince Klassen, Zlam Dunk, Dubb Sicks, and free Lone Star beers and Sweet Leaf Teas. 6-9. Also, if you're looking to get some spinning time in this evening, Backspin Records is hosting an open deck session from 6:30-9:30.

I mention this mainly because the $7 you would pay to see bands you probably don't want to see benefits the bats. The bats are good. Do something for the bats. If someone has had the questionable judgment to entrust a child to your care for the day, this is an excellent opportunity to make yourself look really cool. Make up bat facts (they have been taught to sing Elton John). Fill them with inordinate amounts of sugar. Tell them the hippies that populate this event are in cat cave men. A family event, but like I said, bats.

DISCO STALLION

What a title that is. I don't know hinds from heads about fashion week, so I'm going to belatedly defer to this lovely blog: amberdemure. I've just noticed that Austin Is Burning has done the same thing. AWTHUM and Peen Scene have yet to give in. By the way, these blogs are great. Now that I'm done shamelessly plugging things, have I got ze post for you. Art abounds, but TONIGHT!

Yay!
Yay!
WEE! + der fabulous haus pahties

AND ON TO SATURDAY
+
+
MEN-R-G DJs (MVSCLZ, DYLZ-PILLZ, GIGGOMACHINE) will be spinning "the finest in cosmic/italo/electro/house/balearic/rave/german trance/laser
crunk/screw-pop/slam/mosh/dutch filter disco/french bathhouse
garage from the 70s, 80s, 90s & beyond" at their very own party at Rusty Spurs. Yes, Rusty Spurs. Don't act so aghast. If you ever went to Black and Tan, you were basically going there anyway. There was undeniably a good bit of crossover going on. The point is good music, so chill yourself out. Plus, as you might have guessed, there will be a space/2012/future themed costume contest.

+ ART
From 12-3PM, Okay Mountain is hosting a show by Daniel Fabian. Supposedly there is a byo-bbq going on, which is always nice. Artist statement:
These works represent a recurring theme of my thwarted escape to a utopian tropical destination. I frequently attempt to expose the incongruities of reality through a subtle form of humor. Humor is a cognitive mechanism that evolved to relieve stress caused by unexpected outcomes. Its source is a primordial bone located in the elbow.
MASS Gallery is celebrating their staff show with an all day opening. Cool.

ZOLO-ESQUE

TODAY TONIGHT TODAY
I can vouch for Auto Erotique live. This is, how you say, a big deal. No word on what the RSVP will actually do for you, but DO show up early, because this bar is on the small side. That can translate to "intimate" shows and/or mild heat stroke cases, depending on how you play it.

No idea, but Richard Henry will surely be spinning gold.

And then there's this across the street. I bet you thought that was all that's making me sad to be working late tonight, but lo, there is so much more.

WITNESS
From 5-10 there's a clothing, record, and anything you want to bring swap at 2405 A East 9th St. Also featuring a free mojito table from 8-10, art things to do, and the sounds of DJ Hot Britches, Hershey Wilson, Courtesy, Cowabunga Babez, and Wild America!

Rancho Relaxo's final farewell happening features music by Spiked Punch, Literature, WYLDPRTY, Cooper Jefferies aka Noggin, You and Me, and Metal Bunnies (pictured, via TUMMYTOAST). We will miss the Ranch! It supposedly wraps up around midnight. There's also a performance art event at the Blue Cube (505 E 50TH ST) that features the art of Jesus Benavente, Scott Eastwood, Jill Pangallo, Chris Reed, and James Willard Pierce. That is from 9-2 and has the standard art event consumables that make up 90% of a proper Summer diet.

SATURDAY (PRIMO)
If you are unacquainted with the idiosyncratic, often bedazzled, and eclectic majesty that is Everything In Heaven Is TV, now is your chance to hold it close to the bosom of your brain and let it become your friend. This event also doubles as a Zom Zoms reunion show, making it a perfect chance to impress your friends by casually dropping the term Zolo-esque. Other live musics provided by the ever lovely and inventive No Mas Bodas, the amazing DIANE, and the smooth sounds of SURVIVE. DJ MVSCLZ and DJ Booty Gator, whose old weekly set at Submerged you may remember, will be spinning between sets and afterwards. Secret guests and surprises abound. Oh whatever could they be? The $8 cover charge gets you all that AND a copy of the show's first season. I sound like I'm overly excited because I am.

Happy Birthday to Clara! + after party, hooray!

SUNDAY MISSILE TEST
now glue it good

This reminds me I need to buy new socks.

BIOPIG GENRE

3 - 3 - 3, it's 3 posts in one!

FRIDAY IS FOR ANIMALS

Come eat pizza, wear a pig mask, witness the mighty and unpredictable musical formations of Psychic Violence and Go Die, and get down to the ever fabulous space sounds of DJ MVSCLZ. Some costumes will be provided, but animal costumes of your own devising are encouraged. The purpose of this event is to gather footage for a piece that'll be on display at the Blanton in early July. Filming begins at 7 and the show ends at midnight. Where else but Okay Mountain

Still haven't made it out to Red Fez. That's probably because I make it a point to not go out of my way for belly dancing. Tonight though, all that jangly hoo-ha gives way to the sounds of Jon Nelson and Ryan Tomorrow. Visuals by the always amazing Shiny Kid and $2 Lonestars make this a required post Animal Collective stop

Two of Austin's very best DJs are playing Creekside tonight. Plus, Scion events mean the looming possibility of goody bags. And Richard Henry is just a darn decent fella that you know you can't say no

Feel the teal and socialize at this dependable every other Friday spot

SATURDAY
West Coasters and Canadians lay siege to Okay Mountain with a slew of artwork that encompasses several mediums. Reception from 7-10

Hometown heroes and NYC imports unite to give you MILK#9. In my opinion, Abominatron alone would make it worth stopping by, but you get oh so much more. NO COVER, y'all

SUNDAY
The Church of the Friendly Ghost and Salvage Vanguard Theater present a variety showcase of female artists, featuring How I Quit Crack, No Mas Bodas, and Nanobangbang. As a member of the patriarchy, I can can say it's important for females to assert themselves creatively via establishing commensurate arenas of influence and fostering a larger sense of community and cooperation. Putting all that aside, this lineup is hard to beat. It almost reads like a "best of" list. Doors at 8, a $5 suggested donation at the door, and BYOBooze. You know the SVT drill by now. Do it!
